ACE - Action Commitee for Eldorado

The Action Committee for Eldorado Canyon, founded in 1992, was the first climber based organization to incorporate a fixed hardware review process for community involvement on the development of bolted routes.  While new bolted route activity in Eldo has slowed substantially from it’s peak in the 80’s and 90’s, the process is still used to gather climber feedback and provide a recommendation to Eldorado Canyon State Park regarding the addition of any new fixed hardware.  In addition, ACE has raised more than $200,000 for Eldorado Canyon State Park to fund climber specific interests such as access trails and fixed hardware replacement. http://aceeldo.org

The Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics is an international organization that teaches people vital skills to minimize their impacts when they are outdoors. Leave No Trace is the most widely accepted outdoor ethics message used today on public lands across the nation by all types of outdoor recreationists. www.LNT.org

Forest-ServiceThe Boulder Climbing Community (BCC) and Boulder Ranger District of the U.S. Forest Service (USFS) finalized a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU – Boulder Canyon_MOU_FS_BCC_FINAL [pdf]) to partner together on stewardship projects. There is a growing need to address stewardship in Boulder Canyon and BCC has taken the lead to work with all the various land agencies and partners to mobilize volunteers and resources to ensure climber access is sustainable for generations to come. Specifically, the MOU documents the cooperation between the USFS and BCC to work together towards stewardship and conservation programs and projects.

The BCC is an Access Fund affiliate local climbing organization that connects and supports the many climbers and climbing organizations in the Boulder area, to protect and care for the climbing areas along the Front Range, including Eldorado Canyon, the Flatirons, and Boulder Canyon. On a local level, MOUs like this play an important role in working cooperatively with land managers.

REIEach year REI awards grants “to grow and enhance diverse, accessible, and popular outdoor recreation places where our members recreate.” This year Boulder Climbing Community applied for an REI grant and was awarded $5000. As outlined in its proposal, BCC will use these funds to further its mission of trail stewardship in the Front Range. BCC work for 2014 will involve projects in Eldorado Canyon, the Flatirons, and Boulder Canyon.
