Protect Boulder’s Climbing, Protect America’s Climbing
This past October, Boulder Climbing Community successfully completed an unprecedented stewardship project in Boulder Canyon. Working side-by-side, climbers and Boulder County personnel wrapped up a massive erosion stabilization project, removed graffiti and cleaned up trash from the iconic Castle Rock. The cooperative effort was a huge win for Boulder climbers, and an effort that will be appreciated by climbers and other visitors to Castle Rock for years to come.
All of us enjoy the great climbing opportunities in the Boulder area, from Eldorado and the Flatirons to Boulder Canyon. Boulder Climbing Community is working hard with the Access Fund for continued access to these areas.
But we can’t do it without you. For the first time ever you can now support the local and the national access mis- sion with a joint membership to the BCC and Access Fund. Now when you join or renew with the Access Fund, you can choose joint membership with your local climbing organization, the BCC. It costs the same as a basic $35 Access Fund membership, but ensures your membership dollars are applied locally and nationally. And having a BCC/AF membership card will have other benefits, such as discounts to local businesses for BCC/AF members.
That’s why I’m writing you today. Would you take a moment to join the Boulder Climbing Community and the Access Fund—the local and national climbing organizations that keep your climbing areas open? Let me tell you a little bit more about what we do on behalf of climbing.
The Boulder Climbing Community was founded in early 2010 as a way to bring together the many climbers and climbing organizations in the Boulder-Denver area. That includes anyone who loves to climb around Boulder, so we have people from all over the world who qualify! Our website and Email News serve as a communication net- work (also visit us on Facebook), and our local events bring us together as a community. Our partnership with land managers like Boulder County Open Space and Eldorado Canyon State Park bring about real results on the ground. We want to take care of our incredible climbing resources so that future generations can have the same Boulder- area climbing experiences we all enjoy.
The Access Fund was founded in 1991 to keep climbing areas open and conserve the climbing environment at the national level. We represent and support over 2.3 million climbers in all forms of climbing—rock climbing, ice climbing, mountaineering, and bouldering. Today we have over 10,000 members and affiliates who support our mission. This year, we’ll host more than 160 climbing trail and crag cleanup days. And we lobby on federal, state, and local levels to ensure access to areas we all love to climb.
Please join us in supporting efforts to protect Boulder climbing and climbing across the U.S. Thanks in ad- vance for your support and see you out there!
